McAllen’s nonstop flight to Mexico City is making a comeback after a nearly yearlong effort to restore the international route, McAllen Mayor Javier Villalobos announced Friday.

“Mexico City, we’re back on!!!” Villalobos wrote in a Facebook post, thanking U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and U.S. Rep. Monica De La Cruz for their efforts to restore the service.
“This is a much needed flight that was carrying at a high capacity,” Villalobos wrote. “So good to be back on.”
The announcement marks a significant development for McAllen International Airport, which lost its only nonstop commercial connection to Mexico’s capital region following a federal aviation dispute between the United States and Mexico in October 2025.
